The topics for today are Favorite Books of 2012 and Giveaways. I have both.
Best Books I’ve Read in 2012
Besides The Saffron Kitchen that I talked about yesterday I picked 2 other books.
The Winter Palace: A Novel of Catherine the Great by Eva Stachniak
This is the story of the arrival in Russia and rise to power of Catherine the Great as seen by one of her mother-in-law’s spies at court. This is the beginning of a series.
The Baker’s Daughter by Sarah McCoy
The story of the Holocaust is told from the German point of view by a girl who was a teenager working in her father’s bakery. Fifty years later she runs a German bakery in Texas and is looking back at the war years and the decisions that her family and neighbors made.

I’m going to have to check out The Baker’s Daughter. I love books set during WWII and ones from different points of view. Have you read Skeletons at the Feast? That one was good.

Oohhh The Winter Palace looks really great! I like reading about Russia.
Happy ABEA!
The Winter Palace has been on my to-read list FOREVER! Have you read Philippa Gregory’s work? How does this compare?
Ooh! I am going to add these in my TBR list. 🙂
Thanks for visiting me today. Your cats are adorable! Historical Fic. is wonderful.
Those sound like fabulous books. I’m a World History teacher & love Russian history. It’s like the Wild, Wild West of Eurasia. Catherine the Great is a very interesting character. I absolutely love visiting the TX Hill Country. It is one of my favorite places. It speaks to my soul. And of course, German bakeries are always on the top of our MUST stop list.
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity & thanks for sharing.
