I read my first Diana Wynne Jones this month. That got me thinking about what else I’ve never read that I should.
A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin
This is considered a classic of fantasy but I’ve never read it or any of her books.
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle
I don’t know how I managed to miss this one as a kid.
I’ve never read anything by Roald Dahl.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
I must admit that never having read Jane Eyre made reading The Eyre Affair more suspenseful because I had no idea how Jane Eyre was supposed to end.
The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling
What kind of Harry Potter fan am I if I haven’t even read all the books set in that world?
**Hangs head in mock shame**
What Books Are You Surprised That You Haven’t Read?
Ooh, don’t feel bad. The only two I read off this list is The BFG and some of Tales of Beedle the Bard. I haven’t even read Fantastic Beasts yet so I’ll join you in hanging my head in shame! I really love Dahl’s work, even though it’s aimed for a younger age. They are quite hilarious and his imagination is lively.
[…] week, I really enjoyed this fun challenge listing the books that you can’t believe you haven’t read.  JK Rowling’s other works would be on the list for […]
I just finished the BFG since I heard the movie is coming out. It was cute and entertaining. Some of your other books are on my list as well. I hope you get around to reading a few of them.
I’ve never read anything by Emily Bronte! So weird, since I love most classics. Definitely recommend Rohl Dahl!!
Oh, you totally should! I love all of these authors!
Ha! I love this post. 🙂 For each of the books you listed, I had to let out a little internal gasp of shock and surprise, thinking “oh, you have to read that one.” Of course, I haven’t read The Wizard of Earthsea and Jane Eyre either, though.
I think the only one of these I’ve read was A Wrinkle in Time (many eons ago), but there are PLENTY of books that I’m surprised I’ve never gotten to. Classics especially (I did finally read P&P, but there are LOTS I haven’t read).
I have to admit that while I like other things by Le Guin, Earthsea never clicked with me… Maybe one day I will try again! As to me, I have read the first Harry Potter book and that is it. lol
I’m surprised at how many people have only read one or two of the Harry Potter books. You get the impression that everyone has read them. Once people start talking about it though it turns out that everyone just seems to have picked up the story through everyone else talking about it.
I actually never read any of these xD I actually really want to read the Tales of Beedle the Bard, but they only sold the hardcover boxset (including Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them) so it’s really expensive. I’m planning to read more classic in the future though.
I’ll try to find Tales of Beetle the Bard through the library. They had Fantastic Beasts.
I’ve never read Jane Eyre or Pride and Prejudice. And I really have never had interest in doing so. One day maybe.
I don’t know if I’ll ever actually get into Jane Eyre either.
If it makes you feel any better, I’ve never read any Dahl books either — nor do I have the urge at this point in my life (blasphemy, maybe).
I went to Roald Dahl Plaza in Wales. I figure that might be enough tribute for me too.
