Actual conversation just overheard at library:
“Hi, I’m —–. Are you —?”
“Yes. Oh I haven’t seen you in ages. Are you still playing piano?”
“No. I gave it up 5 years ago. The arthritis got a hold of me. I have spine problems too.”
“I broke my wrist here recently.”
“I have a 58 year old son who had a stroke last year. He lives with me now.”
“My husband just retired.”
“My son never married and he’s messy like all men,you know. So you can imagine what I’m going through.”
“I don’t know how I managed to stay married for 41 years.”
“I know what you mean. My husband, of course he’s been dead 10 years, was awful when he retired.”
“We have 7 grandkids- 4 under the age of 4 – he’s watching the 8 month old. That’s more diapers than he’s ever changed.”
I’ve never seen two people happier to share their misery.
