A “damn good” fun and revealing memoir from the acclaimed Hollywood actor, Tim Matheson
For the past seven decades, Tim Matheson has been an on-screen favorite in Hollywood. In his debut memoir, Tim takes fans behind-the-scenes of his illustrious career, and reveals what it was like to learn from and work alongside the greats, including Lucille Ball, Dick Van Dyke, Steven Spielberg, and Aaron Sorkin. Tim also talks about how he transitioned from acting to directing, the role in The West Wing that nabbed him two Emmy nominations–and so much more.Filled to the brim with both riveting stories of the ever-changing entertainment industry and illuminating insight via “film school boot camp” sidebars, readers everywhere are going to be “damn glad” they read this fascinating memoir.
I picked up this audiobook only because it was available on the Libby app when I needed a new audiobook. I wasn’t even 100% sure that Tim Matheson was the guy that I was thinking he was. (He was.)
I knew him from Hart of Dixie and Virgin River. I didn’t remember that he had played the vice-president on The West Wing. I absolutely didn’t know that he started working in television on Leave it to Beaver as a kid.
He has stories. He’s worked with just about everyone. I don’t know that anyone else can say that Bob Hope called way up the chain of command in the Marine Corps to get them released from reserve duty so they could go do a dance number on the Ed Sullivan Show with Lucille Ball.
I ended up thinking of him as sort of the Forest Gump of Hollywood. He always seemed to be around in the background of big stories. For most of his life, I wouldn’t have considered him a very nice guy based on his stories. He didn’t seem to ever meet a partner that he didn’t cheat on until recently. He’s really laying it all out there.
I quite enjoyed listening to this book. Even if you aren’t quite sure who Tim Matheson is, you probably know a lot of the shows he was on and people he worked with. If you like Hollywood stories, this one might be for you.
