I joined the YMCA today. I got my guided tour froma guy who echoed what I have told every time I look at a gym. “Here are the machines. Over there are the free weights. Some women do them.” I love free weights. So after a 5 minutes warm up on a treadmill I headed for the weights.
I downloaded some workouts that seemed logical and reasonable from MuscleTech. Today I planned to work on my arms and do some shoulders since that is my main motivation. It has been a long time since I lifted at all so the amount of weight I could do was embarrassingly low. Here it is recorded for posterity so hopefully in a few months I can look back at this and laugh at what a wimp I was.
Dumbell curls and incline curls – 3 sets of 8 reps at 10 lbs
Overhead tricep extensions – 2 sets of 10 with 5 lbs
Tricep pull downs – 2 sets of 10 at 25 lbs
One arm cable pulls – 3 sets of 15 at 20 lbs
At that point I cut it short because I know I’ll be hurting tomorrow from the tricep pull downs. I didn’t really want to do that much weight but that was the lowest weight on the cable.
I headed back to stretch and do a quick cool-down on the treadmill. I absolutely HATE cardio machines. I’ll walk outside or on a track all day long but put me on a machine and I go stir crazy in less than 3 minutes.
I really need to take a “before” picture because hopefully I will be seeing results. Measurements too.
Oh Gosh just reading about someone working out makes me tired. My idea of exercising my arms is to help take care of my grandson. Here is how I work out Pick up the baby. Spoil the baby, hand him to his mom Pick up the baby, give the baby what he wants when he cries, hand him to his mom, Pick up the baby, feed the baby junk good hand him his to mom…yea there you go, your getting the idea. All together now, 1-2-3. Yep that works for me. lol.
Seriously I think it’s great that you joined the Y. Good luck on getting into shape.
