I woke up to the sound of gunshots this morning. It is the first day of deer season. I have he horses inside for the day because most of the stupid people who can’t tell the difference between a horse and a deer are out today.
Inadvertantly I’ve set up a deer IQ test in my front yard. They aren’t doing too well at passing it. They keep getting stuck in the front pasture. They can’t figure out how to get out of the pasture. But, in order to get in this situation they obviously had to get into the pasture in the first place. So they navigate the fence just fine to get in the pasture but then they run across the pasture and are utterly shocked by the sight of the same fence on the other side. It isn’t a big pasture. Is their short term memory so bad that 10 seconds after going over/through a fence they forget how they did it? I’ve seen deer run up and down the fence line for several minutes before finally crawling though. I don’t hold out much hope for these guys to outmanuever humans during hunting season if this is flummoxing them so much.
