Here are the books that I rated 5 stars in 2023. I’m a super picky rater so they need to be special to get that from me. I’m really surprised that there are this many.
I loved the way this book was written. This is the story of two sisters who have been estranged because of misunderstandings over several decades. Now they are brought back together and are forcing themselves to reconcile even though it is hard.
If I had to pick one I’d say this was my best book of the year. It is the story of the Ku Klux Klan in the Midwest U.S. in the 1920s. The leader was a sexual predator. One of his victims died but not before she was able to give sworn testimony about what happened to her. It shows amazing parallels to what is happening in the U.S. now.
My review that highlights my family’s dirty laundry
This was just a fun audiobook to listen to. He tells his story with such emotion – anxiety and hope and joy. He’s continuously amazed at how his life has turned out.
I had been reading a lot of trans and intersex women in sports and then Caster Semenya’s memoir came out. It was great to be able to see her point of view of the events that I’d been reading about.
I’ve loved this series so I’m really upset that I’ve HATED the follow up series. I didn’t review this one because it is part of a series but I highly recommend checking this series out.
I learned a lot in this book even if the end started to get bogged down in minutiae of trials.
This was a surprise. It was historical fiction I found through Kindle First Reads. It was so good. It is about a Jewish girl sent to live with her matchmaker aunt in the 1960s after she gets caught in a compromising position with the rabbi’s son. It doesn’t go quite like anyone expects.
This is a dragon school fantasy book from a Native American perspective. I loved it and can’t wait for a sequel.
This was an amazing male/male romance set in an 1950s newsroom. The banter was charming.
This is book three in the series that have all been 5 stars for me.
I loved this historical romance because it weaved Mexican history into a typical historical English romance.
I loved this whole series because it pulled together magic and finding your own way in the world and defying expectations and tea. It was cozy and wonderful. My Review
This was such a good series. It covers a lot of political intrigue that threatens to tear apart a group of friends. They have come together to help provide cover for each other because they are homosexual in a society where that is ruinous. The writing is so good.
I love this whole series but I think this one was my favorite. You need to read the rest of the series to fully understand it. There is an intergalactic matchmaking competition in the Inn. The world making and games playing is spectacular!
What a fascinating selection, so wide-ranging, reflecting a great year in reading, I assume. Here’s to an excellent 2024.
What a good-looking mix of genres on your list, and how fortunate that so many books were good enough for that 5-star rating this year. I somehow totally missed that Henry Winkler had a memoir out; that one’s got to go on my TBR!
Hoping 2024 is also filled with some truly special reads for you 🙂
Henry Winkler’s book was fun!
I’ve seen that Klan book on a few blogs this year. I should probably add it to my TBR. It sounds really interesting!
SISTERS WITH A SIDE OF GREENS sounds like a good one. I hadn’t heard of it before, so thanks for the heads-up!
Happy TTT!

It looks like you read a nice mix of books this year and came up with some great favorites. Happy 2024!
I’ve only read part of A Fever in the Heartland so far, but it’s so good!
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
Such a great and diverse list you’ve got there! Hopefully many more favorites in 2024!
