Yesterday was my anniversary. On November 13, 1984 we bought Spirit. I decided to try to ride him home because it wasn’t that far and we didn’t have a trailer. I made it about 100 yards before a semi went by and sprayed slush at him. He dumped me and ran back to his pasture. I should have known then that I was in trouble.

The next day we got a friend with a trailer to pick him up for us. Thus started 21 years of being owned by a very bossy horse.
