I bought an iPad today.
I decided to buy it at the Apple Store instead of online so I wouldn’t have to wait for it. Probably not the best decision but it did save me lots of money.
I got there and couldn’t find anyone willing to sell me an iPad. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman when she couldn’t get anyone to sell her clothes. There are nothing as gauche or common as cash registers or shelves of hardware at Apple Stores. You have to find a salesperson who then walks you through the experience. I found a person who seemed to be directing traffic. I told her that I wanted to buy. I was told that I was second in line for sales. I felt like flashing my credit card to show the world that I was serious so get me a salesperson! Finally, a salesperson was assigned. I skipped all small talk in case they disappeared again. “iPad. 32G. WiFi”
After a quick consultation they determined that they were out. Seriously? The stores have been totally redone to be virtually all iPad all the time and you are out? They had a 16G in stock which the salesdude said would be adequate for what I wanted. Sold. Thanks for saving me lots of money by not having the larger one.
I also got a bluetooth keyboard because I hate hate hate the touchscreen typing that I’d done on an iPhone. The iPad isn’t as bad but since I plan on typing a lot it is necessary. That leads to the next problem. The machine needs a case to protect it. No case will accomodate the keyboard yet. Great. So I’ll have to get a simple case online and then throw the whole thing in a bag to transport.
I haven’t been able to play with it yet since I don’t have internet access at work. I’ll take it home tonight and put Word and some games and stuff on it so I can write during downtime at work. That was my main goal for the machine.
That seems like a strange way to buy, then again I once needed to explain why I needed the laptop with the “bigger” monitor. You’re making great progress on your wish list.
