The Enchantment Emporium by Tanya Huff – I saw this one listed on a site a few weeks ago. The name intrigued me. For some reason I assumed that this was a YA fantasy book. It isn’t. It has a lot of “adult situations and language.”
I enjoyed this. The Gales are a powerful witch family. Alysha inherits a junk shop from her grandmother in Calgary. When she gets there she realizes that many strange things are happening. There is a sorceror hiding in town and the dragons are searching for him. Things go downhill for her from there.
The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan – This is the fourth book of the Percy Jackson series. In this one Percy and his friends enter the Labyrinth to find its maker in hopes that he will help them fight Luke and Kronos.
Dead End Gene Pool by Wendy Burden – This is a memoir by a great-times-four granddaughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt. By the time she is growing up in the 1960s her grandparents are drinking away the remains of the family fortunes. Her father commits suicide when she was a child leaving her with a mother who disappears for years at a time. She and her brothers live with her grandparents and are raised by servants except for brief interludes when her mother surfaces.
This book was an interesting look at a child’s life that is defined by bored eccentric people with the money to indulge their every whim. Since they often forget that there are children depending on them, the kids run amok.
My husband just finished the last Percy Jackson and thought the final two in the series were by far the best.
I saw Dead End Gene pool featured in People — looks interesting.

The Percy Jackson series is fantastic! I could completely see how you would think the first book is possibly a YA book, that’s what I thought just by glancing at it. At least you still enjoyed it!
Have a fabulous reading week and if you get a second stop by There’s A Book to take a look at what I’ve got planned for the week! 🙂
