A Gentleman’s Game by Tom Coyne
From the age of 11 Timmy has been an exceptional golfer. His father is a member at a country club so he makes him work as a caddy in order to learn humility.
This book wasn’t really my thing. I don’t like golf but I read it because it was set in Delaware and that was quite hard to find.
Natural Born Charmer by Susan Elizabeth Philips
Dean is a football player who meets Blue, a portrait painter whose money has just been stolen by her mother. He takes her along with him to his new farmhouse in Tennessee. He wants to check up on the farm’s new caretaker who refuses to talk to him on the phone.
This was a reread for me because it is set in TN. Can you tell it is Where Are You Reading crunch time? I like this book though. I didn’t remember the details. It is funny.
Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey
The dragons and dragonriders of Pern are the planet’s first defense against the mysterious Threads that fall whenever a nearby planets passes close by. It was been 400 years since the last attacks and people are starting to believe that it won’t happen again. Why should they support the dragonriders anymore?
I’d never read this author so I went back to her first book in this series to start. I found it in my library’s digital section. I liked it. It took a while to get into the conventions of the world but I will definitely read more in the series.Â
Vampire Academyby Richelle Mead
Lissa and Rose ran away from the Academy two years ago. Lissa is a vampire and Rose is a guardian. They were captured in Portland and brought back to school. No one knows why they ran. Now they need to adapt to being under house arrest at school and worrying about the dangers that made them run in the first place.
The Vampire Academy is in Montana. Who’d have imagined? This is the first book in a series. This book has some different rules for vampire behavior than the traditional one. This book combines adventure, mystery, and romance. I’d read more of this series.
Snuff by Terry Pratchett
Sam Vimes, the Commander of the City Watch of Ankh-Morpork, is going on his first vacation. His wife said he had to. Of course, he finds a crime or two being committed in the country to keep him busy.
I was so excited to find a new Terry Pratchett book! There may have been squealing.Â
Close to Famous by Joan Bauer
Foster’s dream is to be the first kid chef on The Food Network. But for now she is living in West Virginia which is where her mother stopped driving when they ran from her ex-boyfriend. Foster has other problems too. The biggest is that she can’t read and it is getting harder to keep that a secret.
I liked this book. The characters were complex and there were cupcake recipes. The book made me hungry.
Frostbite by Richelle Mead
Because of continued attacks against the vampire community, travel for Christmas vacation is dangerous. The academy sends the kids to a nearby ski resort for a break. However, the novice guardians are restless and several hatch a plan to go hunting their enemies.
This book annoyed me because there was stupid teenage decision making. I guess that means that it was well written from the teenage characters point of view.
