Mozart’s Last Aria by Matt Rees
Nannerl Mozart was Wolfgang Mozart’s older sister. She toured with him as a child. At the time of his death they were estranged. This book imagines her receiving the news of his death and heading to Vienna to investigate.
I liked the character of Nannerl a lot. it was interesting to consider the perspective of a sister of a famous person. But I didn’t find the overall mystery compelling.
The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Siddhartha Mukherjee (audio)
This is the story of cancer and cancer therapeutics from ancient times until today. I enjoyed most of it but I like medical stuff. I’m not sure if people without a medical background would want to read all of this, especially the part about cell biology. The politics of cancer were quite interesting.
Elizabeth the Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch by Sally Bedell Smith
This is the story of Elizabeth II from birth to the present day. I quite enjoyed this book. There are many interviews with other people such as Prime Ministers and American Presidents who have worked with her.
Elizabeth The Queen looks like an awesome read. It’s always so interesting to read about real people…and when the book is well written, it makes it so much more fun.
Happy Reading Week!
These books certainly look intriguing – cancer is such a tough subject to read about.
