The SO has been wanting me to get a new bike. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a fancy bike because I don’t like riding all that much. He thinks that I will like riding better if I have a good bike. We are at an impasse.
Then I found this – Trek Lime. It is an automatic shifting bike with coaster brakes instead of hand brakes. This may be the compromise.
I don’t like shifting. I don’t understand gears at all and they totally frustrate me. I also don’t like hand brakes. I like to pedal backwards to slow down just like when I was a little kid. I have a theory on this. I am stuck at an early phase of my bike development. When I was younger I had the typical little girl bike. When I turned 12 and should have been looking at upgrading to a bike with gears, etc. I got Spirit. I didn’t ride a bike again until a few years ago. At that point it was too late to learn about fancy gadgets. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
I had to kill some time today so I went to a bike store and test rode one. It was cool. I like it. I’m not looking to go thousands of miles so it will work just fine for me. When I move to the SO’s house in town I might even be able to ride to the library or the store if I get the basket on it. And it comes in pink. Now I just have to wait for it to go on sale. I’ve seen it in several stores and there are huge price differences – over $150 dollars from the lowest store to the website price.
Oh, moving in with the SO?!?! Fantastic!!! I hope that you get plenty of use out of your bike. I’m with you, though…. Just don’t get the “Gears” and all. I could maybe handle 3 different gears, but 10 or 12 of them???? What’s the point?!?!?! (And, I’ve had bikes all my life, even a “20 speed” racing bike when I was about 12. Though my parents soon got me a “10 speed” mountain bike when I kept wrecking due to the skinny tires trying to ride around our gravel roads.)
Anyway, I hope you can find a good deal on the perfect bike, and get a lot of great use out of it when you DO get it.
I have a Trek Women’s Navigator 2.0 I love it. They make great bikes 🙂
