Here are a few of the authors that I read for the first time this year that I really enjoyed.
Alaya Dawn Johnson
I read four of her books this year. These were my favorites.
The Summer Prince by Alaya Dawn Johnson
Moonshine by Alaya Dawn Johnson
Anne Bishop
I fell in love with The Others series and listened to all three on audio. The fourth is due out in March.
Courtney Milan
Smart and funny and feminist Regency romances? Absolutely. I read four of her books this year.
The Suffragette Scandal by Courtney Milan
Gail Carriger
I read four of her Parasol Protectorate books about Victorian England with werewolves and vampires.
Sharon Shinn
Joy introduced me to this author. I read two of her books about elemental magic.
Troubled Waters by Sharon Shinn
Sharon Lee
Her books about a magical carousel and its operator lead me to visit a merry go round museum and an antique carousel discussed in the second book.
Mona Eltahawy
I’ve been following her Twitter account since I read this book. Lots of good information.
Headscarves and Hymens: Why the Middle East Needs a Sexual Revolution by Mona Eltahawy
Elizabeth Bear
I read three of her books in the Jenny Casey series about a near future earth.
Zen Cho
I just read one book but it was a good one.
Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho
Jamie Jo Hoang
I loved her debut novel.
Blue Sun, Yellow Sky by Jamie Hoang
Sabrina Vourvoulias
This is an absolutely amazing book! Must read.
N.K. Jemisin
I’ve been saying for years that I needed to read her books. This year I finally did it.
Great picks! I need to try Anne Bishop!
Check out my TTT and Music Monday
I haven’t gotten to Sorcerer to the Crown yet but i really want to, thank you for reminding me 🙂
Fantastic list 🙂
I love Courtney Milan!! Have you read Sarah MacLean or Tessa Dare? My TTT
I haven’t read either of those authors yet. Do you recommend a specific book?
I can’t say as I recall reading any of the authors on your Top Ten Tuesday post this week, so I have some new to me authors to check out for sure.
Here’s a link to my TTT post for the week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2015/12/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-new-to-me.html
Anne Bishop’s The Others series is sooooo good. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one. If you really like it, you may want to check out Rachel Vincent’s Menagerie. It is great as well and although nothing alike, I love it ALMOST as much as I love The Others.
I was excited to see that it was coming out fairly soon.
So many authors I have been meaning to read! I have almost bought The Summer Prince SO many times. I need to make it happen next year for sure! And Sharon Shinn has become a top priority too, I’ve had so many people recommend her to me. Jemisin was new to me this year too (although she didn’t make my list, but that’s because like every author I read this year was new to me), and of course I LOVE Carriger and Milan. Have you read Sarah MacLean before? (Have I already asked you this?)
Get The Summer Prince! It is the book I’ve recommended the most this year.
I haven’t read Sarah MacLean but she’s been recommended twice today so obviously I have to.
All of these are new-to-me, too!
Here’s my Top Ten!
