As bloggers we’re good at doing what we do. We read and write and discuss books among ourselves. But what can we do to pass on a love of reading to others?
Donating Books
You know you have extra books laying around that you are never going to read again. Yes, you do! Why not give them a good home?
- Donate to a teacher you know if they would be able to use them in their classroom or school library
- Check out the ALA’s extensive list of places to donate.
- Books for Africa is another idea
Start or support a Little Free Library
I have one of these in my neighborhood. I drop off books there sometimes. Need more info?
Volunteer at a Local Literacy Program
- Read to kids at a library or school
- Help out with an ESL class
- Work with an adult literacy program
What other ideas can you think of?
These are great ideas. My son’s teacher just asked for books to donate. I started a book club for my middle son’s class, my husband dressed as Batman to read to two of our kids classes and I’ve taken my oldest to a book club with me and other middle schoolers and we did a Harry Potter book club. My love for reading has gotten through to my kids and I’m hoping by doing some of the book clubs with their classes we are making reading fun for others. Thanks for sharing your positivity with our Small Victories Sunday Linkup. Love this post. Pinned to our linkup board too.
Ooh, yes! I love supporting my library. Every couple years or so I try to clean out my shelves and donate some books. I volunteer at my local library every summer and it is tons of fun :).
These are some great ideas Heather! Donating and giving back is so, so important, especially for people like us who have more than enough books on our hands already. 😉 Definitely going to take these ideas to heart and try my best to do them. It sounds like a great idea for the upcoming holiday season. Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! <3
I’ve been thinking about starting to donate my books recently… I own a lot of books that I know I’m not going to read anytime soon so I should give them to someone who will enjoy them! Thank you for doing this post, donate books is now on my list of things to do 🙂
