This is part of my A to Z Challenge for April
What really happened with my weight since eating only plants?
I figure was I about 70 lbs overweight at the starting point. In the first two weeks I lost 15 lbs. A lot of that initial weight loss may have been from cutting out junk food and fast food.
After that I didn’t gain the weight back but I didn’t lose any more either. It stayed like that for several months.
Then in the middle of March I decided to cut sugar out of my diet to see what would happen. I lost another 5 lbs for a 20 lb total weight loss.
At the end of 10 days of that, I went on a cruise. I ended up gaining 5 lbs. That surprised me because I have always lost weight on cruises. We go on Viking and the food has always been small portions of really bad food. Combine that with miles and miles of walking every day and I lose weight. But the food was edible this time. (I’ll have another post about that later.) It also had sugar.
We came home and I went back to how I was eating. Not totally off sugar but less. The weight started to go off again. But in less than a week, the husband ended up in the hospital with pneumonia. Running back and forth from work to the hospital and eating what I could grab from convenience stores put me back up to my post-cruise weight that was 15 lbs down from the start.
So now, he’s fine but I slipped back into some bad habits. I need to get my head back in the game and start minding what I eat again. My new mini-goal is to be down another 5 – 10 lbs by mid – June.
I like cooking once a week and keep it in the fridge — or even freezing the meals that can just be popped into the oven or microwave — to make it easier to eat healthy. Good luck!
